Stak Bots Tournament Rules

Tournament Rules for CONQUEST

Image result for stak bots tournament

Match-ups will be using the Swiss system. There may be elimination rounds to determine the top final placings, depending on time constraints. Each match-up will be best of 3, with a maximum of 3 games, so a draw is possible.

Each player will have just one Stak, 9 cards deep, with 3 cards in hand. As players are using their own decks, each will play using their own supply and scrapheap piles. If a player has no cards left in their supply pile but needs to draw a card, they do not get to draw (the scrapheap is not shuffled back in, as with casual play).
Players will roll the provided dice to determine who goes first for each game in the round; that player does not draw a card on their first turn.
Gameplay is per the original instructions, additionally using the ‘starting entry effects trigger’ and ‘reactive play’ toggles.
During the game, you must keep all of the face-up cards in your Stak visible so that your opponent can make informed decisions; you must also inform them correctly if they ask how many face-down cards you have remaining in your Stak, or how many cards you have in your hand.
Most of all, have fun!

Tournament Deck construction:

Each player will need a deck of 60 cards, with exactly 10 of each rank (1 through 6). There can be no more than 5 copies of a specific card (e.g. Core Bot rank 4) and no more than 12 of any one Bot type (e.g. Bash Bot).
Any cards from the original and both expansion packs can be used, with a couple of exceptions: Magnet Bot should not be used (it is only suitable for multiple Staks or 3+ players) and Backer Bot should only be used if the player has sleeved cards as it involves placing cards onto other players Staks, so could lead to confusion.
The original and both expansion packs would each be suitable to use as they are, or as a good starting point to modify.
You will be using your same deck in every round in the tournament, with no card substitutions between rounds or match-ups.
(If you don’t have your own deck, a standard deck can be provided. There may be a slight advantage for players who have custom-built their own decks, but as cards are ranked this should only be minimal)
Sleeved or unsleeved cards are fine, as long as there are no marks that allow you to distinguish between your cards.
We reserve the right to disqualify anyone for any of the following reasons:
Cheating, unsportsmanly conduct, invalid deck composition (eg not having 10 of each rank), or anything else we deem to be unacceptable for such an event. You must be willing to present your deck for inspection by the officials if requested.

Stak Bots Tournament

Put simply Stak Bots is a great little game, and with the release of the third set 'RED' it is even better.

When we announced that its creator Tom Norfolk would be coming to CONQUEST we said that there would hopefully be a tournament.

Tom is going to provide a copy of each of the Stak Bots decks for prizes and there is going to be a very special promo card for the winner,..

This is a very limited card, infact currently there is only one player who has one.

The tournament will start at 5pm and we need 8 players for this event. There will be no additional charge for the event but players will need a Stak Bots deck. If you have not got one or have not played before, there will be plenty of time on the day to learn how to play before the event starts.

If you want to play please let us know or book a ticket online now.

Stak Bots at Conquest

This year we will being joined by Tom Norfolk the creator of Stak Bots.

"Stak Bots is a strategically chaotic battling robots card game from DogEared Games, that has just successfully funded its second expansion set on Kickstarter. It is both simple and strategic, but most importantly it is a lot of fun; Play-board-games.com awarded it 5 out of 6 with full marks for player interaction. With over 50 game variations, you can modify the game to play how you want it to. It can be tailored to either casual play, in-depth strategy and deck-building, or anywhere in between and is suitable for older kids through to adults."

He will be there to sell copies of all three expansions, demonstrate some of the many ways to play the game, answer any questions on the game, its design, rules and future. He is also hoping to run a tournament in the evening for those that are interested. More details on this to follow soon.

Stak Bots Tournament

At this years CONQUEST we will be running a Stak Bots Tournament!

Starting at 6pm the event will cost £2.50 to attend, but players will need there own deck and to have purchased a ticket for CONQUEST!

Decks can be customised but must still contain 10 of each rank (1-6) and no more than 5 of any one particular card!

Each round will last a maximum of 30 minutes and each player will use there own draw deck! The game will be one on one matches using two staks each! We will be using reactive play (but only on your own staks) and each stak will be the usual 9 cards with a starting hand size of 3 cards!

Entry triggers will include the the first cards revealed on each stak with the player taking the first turn taking priority! (Player going first should be determined before cards are revealed). The player going first will not draw a card!

For this event we will be using a SWISS format so games that are unfinished in the time allowed will result in a draw as will any game where players simultaniously die! The time for the round will be displayed and when it runs out there will only be a chance to finish the current turn!

We will have demo games of Stak Bots during the day and a chance to purchase a deck for £10.

The winner of the event will receive a copy of either the original or the expansion of the game.
